Hearts Afire
Al has served as a volunteer with the Hearts Afire organization doing overseas missionary work in Peru and Kenya, and is a financial supporter. Hearts Afire has been in existence since 2006, when a group of like-minded people joined together to share their gifts, skills and resources and with a goal of creating a positive impact on the world. They are a certified 501(c)(3) organization.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Florida
Al has served as a Big Brother with Big Brother with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southwest Florida and was recognized as Big Brother of the Year for the local Sun Coast chapter in 2002-03. Since its inception in 1973, the organization has been helping kids suceed and thrive. They make matches between qualified adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles), ages 6 through 18, in the community. These one-on-one relationships tend to change the child's life in a positive way forever.
The American Cancer Society
Al has served as a volunteer committee member for the Sarasota chapter and financial supporter of the American Cancer Society (ACS). The ACS began in 1913, and is dedicated to eliminating cancer. They have divisions nationwide and operates over 900 offices. Donations go toward funding research for a cure to cancer.
The Ringling Museum of Art
Al has served as a volunteer committee member and financial supporter for the Ringling Museum of Art. Home to one of the preeminent cultural and art collections in the nation, the musuem was started by John and Mable Ringling (of Ringling Brothers circus) in 1931.
The Humane Society Sarasota County
Al has served as a volunteer committee member and financial supporter for the Humane Society of Sarasota County. The Humane Society is a donor-funded animal shelter that works to pair adoptable animals with owners to help them find their “furever homes”.
Habitat for Humanity (Sarasota)
Al has served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in Sarasota. They are an organization that serves in partnership with God to provide home ownership for families in need and to establish hope in their lives.
The American Red Cross
Al is a financial supporter of the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross was started in 1881 after the Civil War, and has since aided those across the world in both peace and wartime situations. The organization expanded rapidly during WWI, and has since grew exponentially. The Red Cross relies on volunteers and donations to succeed in their mission of alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies.
Samaritans Purse
Al is a financial supporter of Samaritan's Purse. They are a “nondemoninational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the the world.” They have been in existence since 1970.
Stand Up to Cancer
Al is a financial supporter of the Stand Up to Cancer organization. Stand Up to Cancer is working toward a more effective way to develop a cure for cancer by combining the best and brightest minds.
The Community Foundation of Sarasota County
Al is a financial supporter of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. They are a public charity founded in 1979 as a resource for “caring individuals and the causes they support”. The Foundation awards grants and scholarships to various people and organizations in support of education, health and human services, arts, animal welfare and the environment.
The Shore
Al is a church member and financial supporter of the The Shore. That “Each Sunday is a time of passionate worship featuring contemporary music, relevant and practical Bible teaching, and a God-honoring time for adults and their children.”
The Sarasota Ballet
Al is a financial supporter of the Sarasota Ballet. The Sarasota Ballet was founded in 1987 and has since become a full resident ballet company. They are critically acclaimed and have been invited nationwide to perform. All of the dancers live and contribute in Sarasota.
The Sarasota Cuban Ballet School
Al is a financial supporter of the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School. The school was founded by two renowned performers who rigorously studied under the Cuban traditional ballet, and they joined to teach in Sarasota and share their passion with others.
Engineering Ministries International (EMI)
Al is a financial supporter of Engineering Ministries International. They are a non-profit organization made up of professionals who donate their skills and time to help families around the world get out of poverty.
